Baptism
Through Baptism, we welcome people of all ages into the family of Christ’s Church.
We baptise members of the congregation, their immediate families and residents of our parish. To find out which parish you live in, click here. We encourage all who are interested in having their children baptised or seeking baptism for themselves, to come to church and worship with us regularly.
We baptise children on Sunday mornings at either our 09.45am or 11.15am services, though not during the seasons of Advent (the four weeks before Christmas) or Lent (the six weeks before Easter).
The Church of England website has more information about Baptism.
If you are an adult and have not been baptised, we will be very happy to prepare you for Baptism. Adults are normally baptised and confirmed at the same service, as Confirmation is the completion of Baptism for those old enough to make baptism promises for themselves. Please see the information below. Please contact Fr Jonathan if you would like to consider Baptism or Confirmation
Confirmation
At St Peter's it is our practice to offer Confirmation to children in Year 5, aged 9 or 10, and we have a preparation course in the early part of each year with a Confirmation Service around Easter. Teenagers who have not been confirmed already are encouraged too, and special arrangements are made as appropriate.
Adults who would like to learn more about faith and to be confirmed also meet weekly for classes. As described above, for those who have not already been baptised, Baptism and Confirmation take place together at the same service. The picture here shows our Confirmation candidates with the Bishop of London in May 2023.
The Church of England website has more information about Confirmation. Please contact Fr Jonathan if you would like to consider Baptism or Confirmation
Marriage
We welcome couples who wish to be married in the Church of England. In order to be married at St Peter’s, or any Anglican church, you must meet certain criteria. You can marry in a Church of England church if you can show that:
one of you lives in the parish, or
has at any time lived in the parish for at least 6 months, or
was baptised in the parish, or
was prepared for confirmation in the parish, or
has at any time regularly gone to normal church services in the parish church for a period of at least 6 months, or
that one of your parents, at any time after you were born has lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months, or
one of your parents or grandparents was married in the parish.
If one of these conditions might apply and you would like to consider marrying at St Peter's, the clergy will be very happy to discuss this with you. Please contact Fr Jonathan.
The Church of England website http://www.yourchurchwedding.org gives much practical information.
Funerals
To arrange a funeral or memorial service at St Peter’s, please contact Fr Jonathan via the about us section of this website or call 020 7235 4242.
The Church of England website has more information about funerals here.
There are statutory fees which apply to Marriage and Funeral Services, and church fees for Blessing services after Marriage, and for Memorial services, and we will be happy to talk about the fees and church costs for these services. There are no fees for Baptism or Confirmation.
